Questions
Is there a free alternative to VMock?
For the parsing question, yes: ATS Verification's scan is free and unlimited, with no signup and no university login. It shows the text an applicant tracking system extracts from your resume and names every failure. It does not benchmark you against a school cohort, which is the part only VMock does.
Does a high VMock score mean my resume passes an ATS?
Not necessarily. VMock scores impact, presentation and competencies against your school's standard. A resume can score well there and still lose its dates or job titles when a parser reads a table-based template. Check both.
I have used all my VMock uploads. What now?
Run the free scan here as often as you need while you edit, and save any remaining VMock uploads for the final version.
Should I use my school's template for online applications?
Use it for the resume book and for anything a person reads directly. Before sending it through an online application system, scan it. If the parse is clean, keep it. If the scan shows scrambled dates or a missing name, use a single-column version for those applications.
